There are only so many times one can take rejections. That is how I would describe my relationship with my macaron making. After a couple of unsuccessful runs with macarons it is great to bake something basic and wholesome like a lemon poppy cake. This cake recipe calls for half a cup of ground almonds for that added grainy texture to a light butter batter. The cake can afford a little bit more lemon zest for more zing!!!
